Handford Road Childcare Centre

The Handford Road childcare centre was designed to make best use of the north-facing aspect of its corner site. We purposefully wrapped the building around the rear of the site, creating two separate north-facing playgrounds that are really the hero of this project. By setting the basement carparking level and the ground floor level and activity rooms to the rear of the site, we allowed the activity rooms to open out onto a spacious verandah space and then feed into a gently sloping playground, with the potential for lush landscaping. In this way we’ve given over the best portion of the site to the playground – and therefore to the kids – and used the remainder of the site to facilitate the built form.
